Judgment is a job, not a feature

It deserves a seat as serious as the one that produces the work. Bolted onto a writing tool, it's an afterthought. We do nothing else.

The judge can't have produced the work

Anything that produces has a reason to approve its own output. We judge; we never produce — so there's nothing to defend and no reason to flatter.

A verdict you can't trace is just a louder opinion. Every finding is pinned to the line and the judge that caught it — including ours about ourselves.
